In today’s internet society, all kinds of information can be obtained and transmitted, quickly and easily, via search engines and social media. In view of this, are our perceptions derived from our own personal experiences? Or are they led by others? The collage works were made using acrylic paint and paper. They were then uploaded on to an image search engine via the internet. Results of the image search were then adopted as the title of each work. This combination of image and word is a familiar structure that is used not only to learn something, but also in every aspect of our lives. This includes posters, restaurant menus and, of course, social media. In art, works have a corresponding title and this helps in understanding the piece. But, how is the work understood when the title, which ties together image and title, and creates a concept, is determined by A.I. rather than by the author?

Jewellery as a communication tool
‘What is jewellery?’ This question is always at the back of my mind and it influences my work. One recent answer that came to mind is ‘jewellery as a communication tool ‘ – as mentioned earlier. For example, at a café I used to go to during my stay in Amsterdam, I saw a couple buying coffee and having a conversation with the barista. An embroidered picture on her shirt had caught their attention and this was the conversation starter. This also happened to me whenever I wore a favorite T-shirt which had a unique print. Strangers would often comment on my T-shirt, saying ‘very nice’ or ‘cool’ or ‘where did you buy it’. This is anecdotal evidence of communication prompted by things we’re wearing and this made me think about my original question. As communication through internet-connected devices is now part of our everyday lives, I hope this wearable work will be an opportunity to interact with each other.
